Project 6 – Worse Apple

In this project, we recreate the first minute of Bad Apple!!, a popular Touhou shadow art animation set to a lyrical rendition of the song of the same name. We used joint-based animation to animate the characters in 3D. Developing this required learning a lot; we had to find MMD (Miku Miku Dance) models for all the involved characters on old Japanese websites, use Blender with an obscure plugin just to convert the models to format supported by Maya, then figure out how to use joints in Maya when half of their names were corrupted Japanese. None of us had ever animated humanoids before, so it all turned out a bit janky, hence the joking title, "Worse Apple."



For our story boards we didn't really use our own, but instead used the original video( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtutLA63Cp8 ) and went frame by frame thorugh it.
